iCentera Awarded Patent for a Platform that Enables Sales

Invention is Foundation for the iCentera 360-Degree Sales Enablement® Platform Used by over 170,000 Subscribers to Drive Profitable Revenue

Minneapolis, MN — August 23, 2010 — iCentera, the sales enablement company, today announced it has been awarded a patent (U.S. Pat. No. 7,774,378) for an invention that is central to delivering a hosted/SaaS-based sales enablement platform. When added to the roster of other iCentera sales enablement industry "firsts," the patent further solidifies iCentera's position as a pioneer and industry leader in one of today's hottest emerging software sectors. This patent corresponds to foundational aspects of the sales enablement intelligence center needed to deliver an enterprise-class sales enablement solution that can be deployed by virtually any B2B sales organization.

iCentera, which stands for "intelligence centers for a new era of marketing and sales," has a long history in the sales enablement market. The company's founders envisioned a cost-effective sales enablement platform that empowered business users to easily deploy and manage a sales enablement platform with the ability to generate custom sales and marketing portals that adapt in real time to changing aspects of the customer's business. Central to the vision was minimizing the complexity of the technology and eliminating the need to deploy and manage the hardware and software infrastructure.

"We take great pride in what we have accomplished as pioneers in the sales enablement market over the past 20 years, and our customer-centric focus shapes our product direction and gives us a unique perspective when deploying new customer solutions," said iCentera CEO Craig Nelson. "This patent covers the foundation of our sales enablement solution and we see the USPTO's patent award as yet another testament to our early thought leadership and technological innovation in the rapidly emerging sales enablement market."

In 1998, one of iCentera's founders registered the www.salesenablement.com domain name, providing an early indication of their thought leadership and commitment to the sales enablement marketplace. When iCentera was subsequently founded in 2003, they chose a company name derived from "intelligence centers," reflecting the founders' original vision to create a platform to provide hosted intelligence centers for the sales and marketing disciplines in a business era with savvier customers and vendors that are acutely focused on improving sales and marketing effectiveness and efficiency. Since that time, iCentera has established itself as the industry leader and has successfully implemented some of the largest sales enablement deployments in the world spanning direct sales, as well as indirect channel sales.

To date, over 170,000 subscribers are enabled through iCentera solutions. iCentera has also demonstrated the market need for on-demand software that supports improved customer relationships through intelligent portals that adapt to the buyer. With over 10,000 intelligent portals built to-date for customers, prospects, and various selling communities, iCentera's patented approach ensures that the right information is received by the right individuals at the right time, along with real-time analytics to optimize sales and marketing effectiveness — this is what iCentera calls 360-Degree Sales Enablement®.

The iCentera 360-Degree Sales Enablement Platform provides a hosted intelligence center accessible through web browsers which allows privileged users to set up and configure the platform and portals through which visitors can access content. The system includes:

  • a content repository to store electronic content and its associated metadata;
  • a content manager to provide a browser-accessible interface to populate the electronic content stored in the content repository and associate the electronic content stored in the content repository with potential audience types and manage the electronic content based in part on user-defined rules;
  • a communication portal developer to provide browser accessible interfaces usable by the privileged users to create a plurality of customizable portals; and
  • a real-time or near real-time analytic engine to provide a browser accessible interface for privileged users to analyze use of the published electronic content on the customizable portals and visitor behavior while logged into their customizable portal
